Farmers Market and Thrifting

Downtown Farmers Market

This morning we walked over to the farmers market a few blocks away.  We heard the string section of the symphony was playing and we wanted to check out the veg.  It turned out to be a much smaller farmers market than we expected and we didn't find the string section but we did have a nice walk.

There were a few "Mini Golf" style games set out so we tried our luck at them.

And we saw Dale Hawerchuk or at least his statue.  It is a really cool statue.  

Thrift Store Shopping in Canada!

Our other event today was taking a short road trip to a few thrift stores.  We stuck with Goodwill but they were Goodwill Canada so they were much smaller than the Goodwills that we are used to.  I found a T-Shirt.  I almost bought a Winnipeg Jets Shirt too but decided to leave it.  My T-Shirt collection is getting rather large at this point.

Now I just need a White Russian Cocktail

We can walk to the Stadium the Goldeyes play at.  I suspect these are like nacho bowls.

I would have bought these 5 Pin Bowling glasses if we didn't have to travel with them.  They were cool!

That's it for today.  It was a rather low key day.  There was a severe storm coming in and we wanted to be at home for it.  It ended up not being too severe in our area but from the looks of Reddit, there was heavy hail in the surrounding areas.  If you missed The Manitoba "State Capitol" check it out.

Safety First!

3rd Time Was  A Charm

This morning we decided to walk over to Ziegler Park and swim in the public pool.  We tried once before, here, but it wasn't open for the season yet.  It costs $4 each so I took enough cash to get us in and we walked over.  When we got there we were told it is credit only so we walked back to drop off the cash and get a credit card.  On our 3rd attempt we got in.  We changed plans a little bit today because noticed kids and parents holding balloons at the school and that led us to believe that today might be the last day of school so we wanted to check it out before it was filled with kids. The water was the perfect temperature once you got used to it and both Donna and I used their diving board.  I don't recall the last time I used a diving board.  After our short-ish swim we continued on with our normal plan for the day. 

The Root Beer Stand

Today we took a drive up US 42 to The Root Beer Stand.  It's an institution for the area and a place Cincinnatians travel to from time to time.  It was hopping at lunch time so we had to park across the street.  We went to have more Coneys.  The Root Beer Stand boasts a Foot Long Coney so that is what we each got.  I also got a Root Beer and we split a chili cheese fries.

There were a bunch of hats.  Not sure where they come from.

My Root Beer didn't seem as sweet as the Root Beer from Carl's Drive In.

I couldn't wait for my food to come so my Root Beer is almost gone.

This is my foot long. It is 12 inches and not as long as my 36 inch Po Boy in Baton Rouge.

It has a great neon sign.

Caesar Creek State Park

After lunch we continued up US 42 until we got to Caesar Creek State Park.  Our trip took us through 2 new counties and saw a few good birds.  By the time we got there it was pretty hot and we were pretty tired so we didn't spend a lot of time there.  Swimming kind of took it out of both of us.  

The Visitor Center seemed to be closed so we just walked a trail that went around it.

Thrifting

We also stopped by a Goodwill on our drive.  We were both looking for clothes.  I wanted to find some local T-Shirts and Donna likes to rotate out her clothes but we didn't find anything clothing wise.  I did find one thing that I was going to buy new so cool!  I bought Roller Blades.  The reason will become more clear next month.  It will make for a good blog post so keep checking back.

My skates that are well loved and 1 size too big.

BUT, they were only $4.99!!!!  I think they will do the trick for what we have planned.

Another Movie Day

Today we went to Moviehouse and Eater again for their $6 Tuesdays.  It's a great way to beat the heat and we are remembering how much fun it is to see reasonably priced movies.  When we were dating we would see multiple moves in a week or even sometimes in a day.  We let Sharon know and she decided to come along after making sure it wasn't a slasher horror movie.  Nope is another great movie by Jordan Peele.  The three of us really enjoyed it.

Thrift Store Shopping

Donna and I haven't been thrift store shopping since we got to Texas so the three of us went to Goodwill after the movie.  I looked for the usual shirts related to breweries, Tiki, and I also want one that says Dallas or McKinney on it somewhere.  I didn't find anything.  It seemed like this thrift store had very low inventory in the men's section except for suits and long pants.  Donna did find a nice pair of lounging shorts that looked pretty Tiki so it was a good stop.  The rest of the day I played Hollow Knight and we watched Disney+.  It was a pretty chill day.

I did take a few photos on our evening walk so I could remember where we stayed and how it looked.

Some historic houses have permits to use a lot of water to keep their yards nice.  Others do not and have to let the grass die in the heat.

Tiki in Colorado!

Adrift Tiki Bar in Denver, CO., our 35th Tiki Bar.  We have also been to Tiki Bars in 9 States, 1 Province, and 2 Countries so far.

All that Broadway has to offer

Our Airbnb is about a half a mile from South Broadway (SoBo), the go to street in our neighborhood.  SoBo is filled with shops, bars, restaurants, music venues, and other fine establishments.  In the early afternoon we walked to SoBo and went to the Goodwill there.  We both have enjoyed thrift store shopping since we were young and it has continued into our retirement.  We are shopping for different things now (I used to collect video games and had a GIANT collection), but the hunt is still just as fun. These days we mostly look for practical clothing that fits our current nomadic lifestyle and camping equipment we have figured out we need.  Today we found a few of those items including a new cheese grater, a vegetable peeler (neither of our Airbnbs have had a peeler), a new (to me) Tiki Shirt, and a few great pieces of clothing for Donna.  

I'm not the best selfie photographer (they didn't have selfie classes when I was in school taking photography) so just look at the shirt!

I also search the T-Shirts for Brewery T-Shirts.  I took a photo of this shirt from one of our favorites in Seattle. I didn't buy it because it was a small.

We headed back to our Airbnb after our thrift store score and relaxed until it was time to head back to SoBo to go to Adrift Tiki Bar!  You may have noticed that we like going to Tiki Bars.  I keep track of the ones that we have been to and would love to go to one in every state.  There are some states like Utah that don't appear to have a Tiki Bar yet but we are still young and full of hope.

We arrived 15 minutes before opening and there wasn't a line.  Many of the other Tiki Bars we go to have a line at opening.

The scariest skull of all, a skull with TEETH!

It was happy hour so we also got some non-photogenic snacks to go with our drinks.  It was a good Tiki Bar.  The staff was attentive and friendly, the prices were reasonable, and the space was large.  Most people were there for the dinner.  They had a nice selection of food including a Tomahawk Steak.  

When we got home we continued watching Season 1 of "For All Humanity" on Apple+.  It's a really great show.
