Hunting and Gathering

 Denver, CO

Lazy day in the sun

Morning Walk

This morning we took Francis for his walk.  I grabbed a container because Donna found a Mulberry Tree on one of our walks and I wanted to go back and pick berries.  I only wanted to do this after confirming there are no poisonous look alike trees to Mulberry Trees.  That's the best way to be confident you aren't going to get sick. The tree is very tall and sits within a grade school's fence.  The tree hangs over the sidewalk and the ground is covered with purple stains from the berries falling.  I was able to find a few branches that hang down low enough to grab enough for a sampling.  I decided that if they were good, I would find a way to get more.  When we got back I washed them and divided them into 2 and we both enjoyed the fruits of our labor.  They were really good.  I went as far as to look on iNaturalist to see if there were very many more trees in our area and there are a couple but I was hoping for a grove of them.  I hope to go back on Tuesday and pick a container full and put them on yogurt.

The rest of the day included making a meal list, going grocery shopping, and lounging around.  It is still pretty hot and it's a 3 day weekend so we are trying to stay out of everyone's way.

We were positive it was a Mulberry Tree when we saw the monkey chasing the weasel

Enough for a taste

The stems are much more embedded into the berry than blackberries.

Hope you are having a good weekend.  We are going to get a new county tomorrow!
