Looking Back at Our Day in Chicago

 Chicago, IL September 11th, 2022

Hanging Out with Kevin and Vickie in Chicago's Chinatown

A Great Day in Chicago

On September 11th (yea that date) Donna and I spent the day exploring Chicago.  We started the day by exploring around our hotel and then took transit to a brewery and then finished the day hanging with Kevin (one of my work friends from LucasArts) and Vickie.  It was a really fun day full of food, drink, and rain.

We started out exploring Millennium Park without Francis (he wasn't allowed in the park)

We took some artistic selfies (like everyone else) at the Cloud Gate (The Bean)

It was way cooler in person than I expected it to be.

A view from the inside which smelled like Weed for some reason

We walked the BP Bridge designed by Frank Gehry (same guy that did the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA)

The park has a cool looking Skating Ribbon.  Think Roller Rink but not in an oval shape and outdoors.  Donna was sad it was closed due to weather

It looked really fun

Then we went to Buckingham Fountain (no relation to the palace with the same name)

Missa thinks this looks like Jar Jar

After tending to Francis and drying out a bit we hit the L and took public transit in IL for the first time.

The L was really cool.

It looks like Larry Wins

We had intended to go to Dovetail Brewing based on a recommendation from my brother in law but it was closed due to flooding that day.

Luckily there was another brewery right down the street that was open.

The beer there was great so it was a win

We returned the way we came and then prepared to hang out with friends later that afternoon.

Kevin and Vickie were kind enough to pick us up and we went to Chinatown.  It was pouring rain so we ducked into a place to eat and it turned out to be a lucky choice.  Everything was very good.

We went to a big bulk candy store

They had all kinds of flavors of Kit Kats

The Lover Plum (Red) was very popular

We also went to a traditional herb shop

They had real swallows nests :(

The Anime shop was pretty cool too

Need a facepalm skeleton?

We went to Forbidden Root for beers and dinner

They had IPAs and Saisons infused with herbs

It was a really fun day and I look forward to our next visit.  Hopefully we can spend a month in Chicago.  It's a really cool town.

If you missed yesterday's post you can find it here.
