Dorothy's Ruby Slippers, Bruce Lee's Nunchucks, and The Dude's Robe

 Los Angeles, CA

He's right you know!

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

Today our friends Gordon and Brenton drove up from Orange County to go to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures with us.  Gordon had booked tickets earlier during our trip and couldn't make it so he rescheduled and today was the day!  We headed back to Museum Row (the same place where we visited LACMA) and found parking.  The building the museum is in was originally a May Co.

The Entrance

Memorable scenes were displayed early in the visit to get you ready

A small area to remind you of the history of the building

Now we know how to make movies.  Go make one!

The script from Citizen Kane and some of the lenses used to shoot it

They had a great Bruce Lee section.  I love movie posters!

They tried to recreate the broken glass feeling from Enter The Dragon

A pair of Nunchucks that Bruce Lee used

A costume Bruce Lee wore

They did their best to comment on the history of racism and sexism in the film industry

And celebrated achievements made even against impossible odds

The next section focused on the awards themselves

The award

They showed important acceptance speeches

They also had a section on the different stage settings through the years.  This was a model but they also showed a film.

There was a nice display of Spike Lee's work

I liked the Kaepernick art

More Spike Lee imagery

A 1930's Camera.  Imagine having to act with this pointed at your head

The Wizard of Oz in Three G!

They had an area dedicated to Spanish Film Director, Pedro Almodóvar

Donna and I watched his movies down the street at New Beverly Cinema when we were dating.

Cells from Akira

In the Stop Motion Animation area they had Jack Skellington Heads

The museum transitioned to Artifacts from Movies

They showed early forms of projected entertainment

Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that's the Dude, in Los Angeles

A costume from Rocketman, a great biopic on Elton John

More costumes on Display

The special exhibit featured movies from Hayao Miyazaki

No photos were allowed in the special exhibit so we took pictures just outside where photos were allowed

Life size replica of Bruce from Jaws

There was a glass bridge that took you to a beautiful observation deck

The open deck was really nice

With great views, I was under that rock down there a few weeks ago.

Exit through the gift shop please!

All Seasons Brewing

After the museum Brenton drove us to All Seasons Brewing.  Gordon had been there before.  It is a giant space in an old Firestone Tire Store.  The food and beer were really good and we got to sit on the patio and talk about our museum adventure.

New Brewery

The tap list.  One of their beers won a medal at the Great American Beer Festival.

A mural at the brewery

After lunch we walked across the street to Little Bar.  It was quieter and less crowded and allowed for great conversation.

The entrance to Little Bar

Mermaid but no sunken treasure

The bathrooms were surrounded by license plates

It was a great day and we were so glad Gordon and Brenton could reschedule.  We even found out that Gordon will be staying in a hotel about .2 miles from us in Kansas City in August so stay tuned for that adventure!

Check out yesterday's adventure here.
