Paying Our Respects to an Old Friend

 Las Vegas, NV

RIP Tropicana

The Tropicana Resort and Casino is Closing April 2nd

We have heard rumors that The Tropicana is closing and is going to be taken down to build a Baseball Stadium for The A's.  I wanted to go and pay our respects one last time.  The Tropicana is a special place for us.  I turned 21 here, we spent our honeymoon here, and we have had other memorable trips to Vegas while staying at The Tropicana.  We were initially drawn to it because it wasn't an expensive place to stay, had an old school Vegas vibe, felt very Tiki, and was still a nice place to stay with a great swimming pool.

We entered from The MGM Grand walkway.

They stream a live poker game here.  It was recently moved from The Bicycle Casino in LA.  I wonder where it will move next?

We have spent a fair amount of time waiting in the check-in line here at The Reception Desk.

I turned 21 somewhere under this roof.  At midnight I walked up to the bar to buy a drink and I wasn't carded.  It was the only time I was disappointed for not being carded.

The Tropicana still looks kept up.  It doesn't seem run down at all, just empty.

We remembered the pool one last time.

And walked the walkways that connects the tower we used to stay in to the casino and strip.  It's all still very familiar but also very different.

We walked out the main entrance one last time.

A piece of Vegas history, albeit a very different piece than it used to be, will soon be gone forever.

That's it for today.  If you missed, A Visitor from SoCal, check it out.  Darrin came to visit us during our stay.
