Walking to Kentucky and Campbell County

 Cincinnati, OH & Newport, KY

On the Kentucky Ohio Border on the Purple People Pedestrian Bridge

The Purple People Pedestrian Bridge

Today we took The Cincinnati Bell Connector to The Ohio River and then walked over to The Purple People Bridge.  The bridge crosses The Ohio River and connects Cincinnati OH with Newport KY and it is 100 pedestrian only (well bikes are allowed too so near 100%).  The bridge was the first railroad bridge connecting Ohio to Kentucky back in 1872.  In 2001 it became pedestrian only and was painted purple.

I only took one photo on the Cincinnati Bell Connector because there was pretty good ridership and I didn't want to take photos of people on the tram.

This seems like the old pedestrian "lane" but now the whole bridge is open for pedestrians.

This is apparently the official Ohio State Line but Ohio Kentucky line is a few yards south.

The other state line on the bridge.  Maybe this one is symbolic.

Tiki in Kentucky

We walked across the whole bridge to the Kentucky side to visit Campbell County, the first county we have entered on foot the first time (I think).  We continued on along the levee in Newport Kentucky to see what was there.  I knew there was the Kon-Tiki on the levee which I have identified as our Tiki in Kentucky but Google said it was closed until 4pm.  We walked there anyway and IT WAS OPEN!  It was a really beautiful day so maybe they decided to open early.  Whatever the reason, we got to check Tiki in Kentucky off the list.

The Levee in Newport KY had a lot of container shops and an AMC and a few other places to spend money.

We split a Zombie.  It was pretty good.

New Brewery

After our walk we took care of our monthly parking.  We had to pick up our parking card downtown.  After that we swung by the car to pick up a few things and then headed back to the Airbnb to drop stuff off and visit Francis for a bit.  After checking to see if Francis could go to Rhinegeist and finding out he can't we told Francis we would be back and headed to Rhinegeist Brewing.  Rhinegeist is a very large independent brewery in a cool old warehouse.  The beers were really good and the atmosphere was fun.  I am sure we will be back.  There is even a really nice rooftop bar.

The view from the rooftop was great.

We'll be back!

We are pretty much settled in Cincinnati now.  The last thing to sort out was parking and that is taken care of.  Time to enjoy the city!  If you missed the previous post, you can check it out here.  St. Louis to Cincinnati via Indiana and Kentucky
