Sedalia, MO

| I like $2 hand dipped corn dogs and I can not lie |
The Missouri State Fair
Today was the day we decided to do the 1.5h drive to Sedalia, MO to visit the Missouri State Fair. It was my first State Fair. I have been to County Fairs and other types of fairs but never an official State Fair.
We drove East on US-50 through Knob Noster, MO (I just wanted to type Knob Noster) to Sedalia, MO. The parking was free but it was on a grassy field and it had been and still was raining so we were careful not to get stuck.
| The drive was nice and the area is pretty. We were passing close to Lake of the Ozarks where we will be camping in a few weeks. |
| Free Mud Parking |
| We paid our entrance fee and were given a map and a flyer for $2 Tuesdays. A few things were on sale for $2 including Corn Dogs! |
| Seems like a lot of the attendees just camp there |
| The Beef presence was HUGE at this fair. |
| One of the local breweries was there to try advertise their beer with big horses |
| They had a vintage tractor show. |
| You got a good Sarsaparilla? |
| I think the title was an overstatement |
| Our first stop was a $2 Hand Dipped Corn Dog! |
| The Missouri Beef House had a long line that just kept getting longer. We were intrigued but there was no real menu so we didn't wait in line. |
| We went into The Home Economics Building |
| This just in, You can win a ribbon for putting together a Lego Set! |
| We missed the Pillsbury Baking Demonstration but were there for the good part |
| Free Cake |
| Is this an award for baking or for making penicillin? |
| This mold was especially cool |
| Some sad sack wasted a bunch of blue ribbons to win a red ribbon |
| Eastern Tiger Salamander found throughout Missouri |
| Donna looking at Paddlefish |
| Next we visited the 4H area. |
| 4H Baking |
| 4H Cake Decorating |
| 4H Archery |
| Good advice |

| 4H Shotgun Shell Art |
| More 4H Shotgun Shell Art (at least someone is picking up the shells) |
| 4H Bead Craft |
| In loving memory of Brittany, now let's cornhole! |
| The Pork Stop was less popular than the Beef House but they did have a Pork Chop on a stick |
| Next we watched the 4H kids show their cows |
| If the cows could read things would be very different |
| A disaster waiting to happen |
Okay I didn't get a photo but after they show the cows, the kids bring them around to a holding pen that holds their head in place. A man came over and wiped the cows nose and then took a nose print. We weren't entirely sure what was going on at the time but after looking online we figured it out. A bovine nose print is like a human thumb print. It is unique and stays the same throughout the life of the cow. You can read more about it
here if you want.

| My First *State Fair |
| We in front of Machinery with my 2nd $2 Corn Dog (did I mention it was hand dipped?) |
| Another Wile E. Coyote purchase. Look out Roadrunner! |
| Cute pigs! |
| This is the weirdest looking goat I have ever seen |
| My Ham won Grand Champion! Pretty good for a first timer |
| I am sure the grasses and grains display was better before the rain |
| Red Clover |
| This lamb has the low budget Moon Knight Cossplay down! |
| This one was yelling at me our complaining about their cut |
| This sheep was saving some straw behind its ear for later |
| Again, if the sheep could read, things could be very different |
| The wool was curly and soft |
| I had to go into the MODOT building |
| Cool kids wear helmets but they aren't required if you are over 25. |
| The MODOT building didn't hold up to my expectations. |
| We went into the Fine Arts building and met the artist that made this cool piece |
| You can get ribbons for flower picking! |
| And Leaf Picking |
| I'd eat a Youth Ham |
| Lincoln University had a table with Frogs, Water Beatles, Leeches, Dragon Fly Nymphs, and Crawfish with someone answering questions. Missouri has 23 different species of Crawfish |
| They didn't like my camera so close |
Again, I didn't get a photo but they had a tub of leeches and when the gal working there put her finger in to get them to move they all moved quickly for her finger. It was interesting and creepy.
| The Ride Area was pretty vacant because of the rain |
| And fair rides are stupid expensive |
| $10 to jump on a small trampoline with bungee cords tied to your waist. This is Middle America, every kid should have their own trampoline with bungee cords in their yard. |
| We found the Totally Fried Shack |
| This was the only ride with people really waiting to ride it. The "Cool" rides cost 5 tickets and each ticket was $1.20. Crazy Expensive! |
| On the way out we stopped by the Mules |
| This one had a baby! |
| We got blocked by the cow parade |
| We drove by the main entrance which looked cool so Donna got this photo while we were waiting for the light. |
| Donna took this one too |
| We took a different route home to get a new county and different highway miles. We stopped at the last rest stop in Missouri heading West on I-70. |
| We picked up Johnson Co MO, Pettis Co MO, and Saline Co MO today, |
That was today's adventure. If you missed yesterday's check it out
here.
