Kinsol Trestle

 Shawnigan Lake, BC

An Old Train Trestle

Today we drove 45 minutes to Shawnigan Lake where the Kinsol Trestle is.  Started in 1911 and completed in 1920, The Kinsol Trestle was built to bridge the gap over the Koksilah River.  The trestle opened for passenger service in 1922 for the Galloping Goose Railcar. It's 144 ft. high which makes it one of the tallest free standing timber structures.

Like any good historic structure, there is an interpretive sign telling you why it's cool.

The sign in the parking lot told us the trestle was 1 km or 45 shaz-bots or 3 wing wangs or about 596 mannequins away.  You can use any made up measurement you like to measure the distance.

The walk was beautiful and it wasn't very crowded because it was a Monday.

After about 74.5 Pickleball Courts, we arrived.

We found ourselves surrounded by Violet-green Swallows while we were on the bridge.  They were darting everywhere catching insects and chatting with each other.

It's a really impressive structure.

Donna looked for swallow nests.

It's totally worth the drive and the walk to see it if you are in the area.

That's it for today.  If you missed, 2 Years on the Road!, check it out!  It has been a great adventure!
