The Foodie Adventure Continues

 Portland, OR

It's still a bit cold but warmer temps are on the way

Han Oak

The other day we made reservations at Han Oak.  Right now they are doing a set Korean menu and it all looked good so we made reservations.  We had seen it on an episode of Ugly Delicious and decided we wanted to go.  It also helps that it's #17 on the Oregonian Top 40 Restaurants in Portland. Donna has been reading the Oregonian and using the top 40 to help plan where we end up for food.

We wanted to get some exercise so we walked the almost 2 miles there and saw a lot of cool things.

Tails and Trotters Wiches!

We swung by The Pie Spot to have a snack because we were early

I am sure this was the best $5 bite we have had on this trip.  Their Lemon Vanilla Pie was amazing!

Hey Girl!

Han Oak has an open kitchen and the proprietors live upstairs.

The menu was prix-fixe but they also had another menu with a few more bites you could order and a cocktail menu.

I took this photo of me in the bathroom.

The dining room is really cool.

Our meal started with great Banchan

The main was Gimbap.  You make your own handrolls with all of the ingredients and sauces.

My hand and hand roll.  It was delicious.

Dessert was a Korean Shave Ice.  I don't know how they do this but it was like snow mixed with coconut.  I have shave ice before but it wasn't like this.  It was also delicious.

It was a great meal and the price was reasonable.  Portland has so many exceptional places with moderate prices.  It's part of the reason we came for a visit.

Tulip Shop Tavern

Yesterday we took light rail across the river to Tulip Shop Tavern.  This places isn't fancy but they make great cocktails and have good pub food.  It was also mentioned in The Oregonion.

They have a beer and a shot special so I started with that.  Kokanee is a big brewery beer from Canada.

Donna and I split a smash burger.  This is the same beer as before.

We also split a wedge salad.  It's the first time we have gotten a great wedge salad from a bar.  It even came with a great onion ring on top.  Also the beer is the same as before.  This isn't my 3rd beer.

I had a cocktail for my 2nd drink.  I needed to test for quality and it was great!

They had a very nice whiskey collection as well.

After lunch we stopped by Ground Kontrol to play some pinball.  I played Jurassic Park and watched the technician try to fix one of the machines.

That's it for today but the Portland adventure continues with more foodie stops and more pinball tournaments.  We still have about 2 weeks here until we move on to Victoria BC.  If you missed, A New Pinball Format, check it out.
