Hanging With Locals in Chi-Town

Chicago, IL

Out and about with Vickie and Kevin!

Dovetail Brewing via The Brown Line

Today we rode the Blue Line downtown and then picked up the Brown line up to Dovetail Brewing.  There is a shorter route that uses a bus to cut across to the Brown Line but we wanted to experience the whole ride on the Brown Line again.  The train winds through houses and right next to buildings on its way up and is a unique experience.

It's nice that some of our purchases are going to help dogs.

We also shared a pretzel and a sausage seen here hanging on sticks.

After Dovetail we took the Brown Line down to Replay Arcade Lincoln Park.  Replay is a great place.  The theming is great, the games are free (when you utilize the bar), and it is right off the Brown Line.

This was my first time playing Halloween.  I didn't really like it.

After Replay we took the the Brown Line one stop and then took the bus across to our place.  It was another easy ride on CTA.  So far transit has been amazing.  I wish people would look at how successful Chicago is and invest in transit in their city.

Out and About with Local Friends

After a rest and some Francis time we headed back out to meet up with Kevin and Vickie.  We started at Solemn Brewing and then moved on to Table, Donkey, & Stick for dinner.  After dinner we swung by The Freeze for dessert and then walked around Humboldt Park.  Humboldt Park was hopping!  This weekend is the Puerto Rican Parade and Carnival.  June 10th is National Puerto Rican Day (I am always learning new things during our travels) and the Puerto Rican community was out and having fun.

I wore my new hat and Donna photobombed me.

We saw this person walking their dog celebrating the day.

Lots of flags and people riding in all states of in and on their cars.

Solemn Brewing

We only had 15 minutes but the beer I had was very good and the space was cool.

Table, Donkey, & Stick was a small plate hipster place.  We had delicious pate'.

Kevin and Donna waiting for Victoria and I to finish up.

The Freeze was a very popular ice cream and fast food stand.  I reminded me of many of the old Route 66 burger, root beer, and shake places.

I hear you're supposed to get it Juciey

I found a Pollock on the sidewalk.

More revelers.

It was a really fun evening with a lot of walking and honking.  We took Kevin and Vickie back to the house to meet Francis and did some more catching up. We got a lot of great tips on places to go and things we should see.  It's great having local guides!

That's it for today.  If you missed Back to The Art Institute for Dali and Contemporary Art check it out.
