Missouri State Capitol, Camping in Iowa and Missouri, and a Night In Chicago

Chicago, IL

Us and "The Chicago Bean" (they don't allow dogs in the park because it's a park)

Catching Y'all Up

Yea I said it! Y'all.  It feels pretty good.  It's ironic that some of the people arguing about pro-nouns have had a non gender assigning word to address multiple people.

Last we spoke, we were in Jefferson City, MO.  We had just finished a long string of camping and were settled in a hotel.  Now we also have just finished a string of camping and are now settled in a hotel.  Here is what happened between then and now.

The Missouri State Capitol

On the way out of Jefferson City, we stopped by the capitol.  They don't allow dogs and we didn't want to leave Francis in the car so we took turns going in and did a sort of capitol speed run.

I love a good county map

A good map for camping.  I want to check out the Mississippi Lowlands at some point.

No dome tours :(

Everyone loves Mark Twain

The cool elevator floor needle actually works!

The 10 commandments on Government Land.

A cool pedestrian bridge over the train yard to the Missouri River

After the capitol we took a road trip to our campsite in Iowa

I thought this was a great way to try to get lazy people to recycle.  We see so many cans in the trash when there is a place to recycle them at parks.

Camping in Iowa

We spent our first night in Geode State Park in southeast Iowa.  When we got there we realized our reservation was right next to a family with 5 kids and the park was pretty empty so we filled out a slip and told the park we were moving sites.  We chose a nice spot in the shade and set up.  It was a nice campsite with a few trails and lots of birds.

Do not snow mobile to the beach!

A fun backhoe toy at the park by the lake

The Sun was bright!

Not what you would expect in Iowa

Camping in Illinois

After our morning coffee and hike, we crossed the Mississippi for the first time in our own car and then headed north to Apple River Canyon State Park.  It's in the very northwest of Illinois so we took the opportunity to dip into Wisconsin for our 30th state together.

A fine Illinois Rest Stop

Using toxic masculinity to get people to buckle up

From a state where a car passenger can drink to a state where someone camping can't drink

Cup fungus!

Packed up for the night

We didn't use the hiking slide

From Camping to a Fancy Hotel in Chicago

The next morning we woke up and quickly packed.  We had a 3.5 hour drive to Chicago.  We wanted to try to check in early so we could get ready for our Tiki reservations at 4:45.  We got to Chicago at around 1pm and the hotel room was ready at 2:45 so we killed some time at the dog beach before getting settled in our room and cleaned up for our night out.

Pay dog baths at the dog beach on Lake Michigan

It was a really nice day so the whole coast of the lake was packed with people taking advantage before winter comes

The fancy peacock doors at The Palmer House

We are Diamond Members so we got upgraded to the top floor.  This is the top floor lobby

Us cleaned up and ready for Tiki!

The iconic Marina City Tower Condos on the Chicago River

The Entrance Hallway to Three Dots and a Dash Tiki Bar in Chicago

It's a cool bar but it is pretty Tiki light for such an iconic place

The drinks here are legit though

They have an alley popup too

Even Chicago isn't immune to Spirit Halloween Stores

Tomorrow's Public Transit investigating

We have another whole day in Chicago and will post about that when we get to Baltimore later this week.  We also have more camping on the way to our next Airbnb stay.

If you didn't see my last post you can catch it here.
