Jazz, Dinner, and a Movie

 Denver, CO

The Coors Light Airstream at Five Points Blues Festival

Five Points Blues Festival

This morning we had our coffee and then rode a bus to the Five Points neighborhood in Denver.  In the first half of the 20th Century, Five Points was known as The Harlem of the West.  The Five PoinOnce we were in we walked around a bit while it was still empty and then headed to "The Other Side" venue to see The Electronik Hornz.  They are an ensemble band of brass players that use a Multi Track Looping Recorder like Reggie Watts to make a mixture of Jazz and Funk.

Waiting for Security to open up!

Accessible port a John's that aren't very accessible.

The entrance to The Other Side (the venue has 2 stages)

Me checking out the tap list

I really terrible zoomed in photo of the band to give you context

We stopped by Spangalang Brewing and had a not very great beer.

Dinner and a Movie

We only stayed at the Festival for a couple of hours because it was hot and crowded.  We tried to take a bus back but the schedule didn't line up so we took a Lyft.  After a power nap it was time for our next adventure.

We drove to the Ruby Hill Neighborhood and met Gene, Brandon, and Jonathan at Pho 96, one of their Pho hot spots.  It was Pho-nominal (see what I did there?).  After dinner we followed the gang to the "movie theater" to see tonight's movie, Christine!

Open Til 3am! (3am is the same as 11pm to us)

I had to take a pho-to of my Vermicelli Bowl (It was too hot for Pho IMHO)

Welcome!  Tonight's Movie is John Carpenter's Christine

We got there early so I could take good photos of their set up.

The flags were flying

Drinks were provided with coded cups

We didn't know Dogs would be there or we would have brought Francis

Hey doggie doggie!

They also provided all the Red Snacks (Because Christine is Red)

Before people got there we got a tour of their amazing house.  They are both artists so their house is filled with art and it is fantastic!

They had amazing glassware

They had a cool bar and they turned their basement windows into dioramas

They were also into cars so they made this cool arrangement of license plates

When the movie started people settled in with their lawn chairs and we all had a great time commenting on the movie.  I had never seen it before and enjoyed it.  I even saw something that I found very interesting (see my analysis below).

Attendees bring things for the hosts.  Today they got a Colorado Pride Flag so they put it on the hot tub.

It's showtime!
These images below aren't mine, they are stolen from the internet and then I put them back on the internet so is it really stealing?  Anyway, I wasn't the first person to notice someone on Reddit posted about it.

The Dude from The Big Lebowski in his Pendleton Sweater

An incidental dude in Christine (trying to save Leigh not kill her) in the same Pendleton Sweater

It was a pretty good story. Don't you think?... Westward the wagons, across the sands of time until we - ah, look at me. I'm ramblin' again.

Yesterday we drove north to Longmont.  Check out the post here.
