Camping Planning and Breweries in KC

 Kansas City, MO

Murals on 16th Street Near The Crossroads

Prepping for Baltimore to Baton Rouge

This morning I spent a few hours booking campsites between Baltimore and Baton Rouge.  It's a whole process that involves several websites and watching YouTube videos.  We always want to know as much as possible about where we are staying and we want to get an idea of what the tree coverage is like.  So far we have done a great job with only one misstep in Capitol Reef where a walk up site was chosen.  We have to watch out for catch phrases like Tent Only Walk Up but words like Primitive and Undeveloped are usually okay.

Almost all booked
We list out all of the stays and then look at them all in some mapping software to make sure the order is correct and then double check distances between each site again to make sure we don't have long drives for no reason.  This all went really well for the most part.  I had to work around our Savanah GA hotel that was already booked for the "cancelled" drive to Panama City.  This drive is mostly the same up until Savanah.  I ran into 2 issues.  Our Florida Campsite after Florida Caverns was fully booked so we just decided to stay at Big Lagoon for 2 days instead of 1 and it wasn't apparent that our GA campsite before Savannah was a walk up site until I went to book it.  One we figured out that we started looking at other GA parks but they were all 2 night minimum stay so we need to do some thinking.  We could stay in Savannah for an extra night but that hotel is SO EXPENSIVE.  We have it booked with points right now and we won't accrue enough points to book a 2nd night in time.  We have some time to figure it out.  I haven't really looked at National Forests or County Parks yet.  I am sure we will find something.

I Need A Beer

After staring at websites, watching campsite tours on YouTube, and entering my credit card info 20 times I was ready for a beer.  Donna and I took the KC Streetcar to Crossroads and walked around with a few breweries in mind.

16th Street had quite a few murals

Our first stop was a quick one at City Barrel.  The beer was great but the service was terrible and it was set up like a restaurant and not a brewery.

Border Brewing was much more comfortable for us

Their Double IPA was really malty

I liked their Border art too

The lime Kolsch was great too.

Our last stop was Double Shift Brewing

I liked this shirt but not enough to buy it and the beer I had wasn't very good.

Saw this new New sign on the walk back to the Streetcar

That's it for today.  It was a pretty mellow day.  If you missed yesterday's post you can find it here.
